The L'viv area is placed in west of Ukraine on border with Poland. The first start in orienteering was held in 1962 near to the ski centre Slavske. Till 1970 for orienteering were used slightly corrected military maps. From 1970 qualities of maps is considerably improved. In connection with bad quality of base maps, the works are conducted, basically, without use of base materials. The first colour map was issued in 1973. The quantity of colour maps in the L'viv area has increased by 1990 up to 50. From the moment of opening borders of the country the intensity of works ours mappers decreases. Only last years have begun to occur in our region new maps. In the summer of 2000 in Truskavets was held World cup and championship of Europe in orienteering. On today greatest quantity of o-maps is present in city L'viv and his vicinities
